Seven runners to take part in NCAA Central Regional in Kearney, Neb.

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University cross country team will send seven runners to the 2017 NCAA Central Regional meet Saturday, Nov. 4 in Kearney, Neb. After completing the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships two weekends ago, the Beavers will attempt to qualify runners for the NCAA Championships.

Freshman Brittny Hillstrom leads the charge for Bemidji State after top finishes for the squad in the last two meets. Junior Sarone Paulzine and freshman Ellen Peterson will also make the trip after finishing among BSU’s top three runners in every meet this season. Paulzine and junior Courtney Anderson are the only two participants to have made the trip before in their careers, while Paulzine set a personal record (23:51.2) last season at the regional meet.

Three of BSU’s other true freshmen, including Ashley HerderingAshley Kinnard and Kristen Petron, will all make their first career appearances at the NCAA Central Regional.

The Beavers averaged a time of 25:10.98 last season at the NCAA Central Regional.

Hillstrom made it back-to-back finishes atop BSU’s runners while setting a new personal record in the 6K race at the NSIC Championships. She topped her previous best time by over 30 seconds. Paulzine and Peterson finished behind Hillstrom in 81st and 98th place, respectively. The next three runners to finish for BSU each set personal records in the 6K, including Kinnard (110th, 25:43.7), Kristen Petron (120th, 26:28.4) and Ashley Herdering (125th, 27:31.6).

As a team, BSU averaged a time of 25:25.5 at the NSIC Championships on Oct. 21 in Moorhead, Minn.
