Six freshmen set 6K personal record times at Bob Waxlax Invitational

SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. -- Six Bemidji State University cross country freshmen set personal records times Friday night in the 6K of the Bob Waxlax Invitational in Sauk Rapids, Minn., led by Brittny Hillstrom with a time of 24:53.8.

For the third straight meet, a different runner has led BSU in its final placing. Hillstrom took her first top finish as a Beaver, finishing 22nd overall on the day, while topping her previous 6K time by nearly two minutes. Junior Sarone Paulzine finished second for Bemidji State and 26th overall with a time of 25:11.7.

Ellen Peterson, who has finished among BSU’s top three in every meet this season, finished behind Paulzine and 30th overall with a personal best time of 25:22.1. The time was 1:25.6 better than her 6K time last meet at the Roy Griak Invitational. Ashley Kinnard also set a personal record in the 6K by over one minute with a 26:02.2 finish to take 37th.

Kristen Petron (46th, 27:16.2), Ashley Herdering (50th, 28.16.3), Courtney Anderson (58th, 31:39.0) and Carissa Decko (60th, 35:55.9) rounded out BSU’s participants. Petron, Herdering and Decko each set personal records in the race.

As a team, Bemidji State averaged a time of 25:46 in the 6K. Augustana University took the overall win as a team with Viking sophomore Emily Tromp taking the top finish with a time of 22:55.7.

Bemidji State travels to Moorhead, Minn., Saturday, October 21 to take part in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships, which begins at 11:15 a.m.
