Freshmen duo lead Beavers at Ron Pynn Classic in Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Ray Richards Course) -- The freshmen duo of Ryne Prigge and Allyna Storms paced the Bemidji State University cross country team Saturday afternoon as it competed in the Ron Pynn Classic 5,000-meter run. Prigge and Storms finished as the top two runners for BSU for the second consecutive meet.

Prigge finished 27th among 75 runners with a time of 19:51.5, topping her previous 5K time at the Dragon Twilight by just under one second. Storms ended her run 1:07.5 behind Prigge to finish with a 40th-place time of 20:59.0, setting a new personal record. Freshman Ellen Teiken and sophomore Carissa Decko also set personal records in the 5K run with times of 24:30.8 and 29:37.8, respectively.

Bemidji State will compete in its final event, the Bob Waxlax Invitational, Oct. 19 before the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship Nov. 3. The Beavers will travel to Sauk Rapids, Minn., to take part in the 6K at 4:30 p.m.

Nestled in Northern Minnesota’s wooded region and located on the shore of Lake Bemidji, Bemidji State University sponsors 15 varsity athletic programs with NCAA Division I men’s and women’s hockey membership in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, while its 13 NCAA Division II programs hold membership in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
