BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University cross country program is set to run its second 6,000-meter race of the season on Thursday, Oct. 7 at the Bob Waxlax Invitational hosted by St. Cloud State University. The women’s race is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Wapicada Golf Course.

Freshman Mary Goodwin and senior Ryne Prigge paced the Beavers at the Roy Griak Invitational on Friday, Sept. 24 in Falcon Heights, Minn. Goodwin and Prigge each finished among the top 50 finishers as BSU took 18th of 28 teams in the 6,000-meter race.

During light rain conditions, Goodwin took top billing for the Beavers with a 46th-place finish and a time of 23:52.3. Prigge followed four spots behind in 50th with a time of 23:55.7. Freshman Zoey Mills came in 119th with a time of 24:53.4 while senior Maryse Mbenoun finished 230th with a time of 26:54.7.

Sophomore Lily Johnson entered the day as the only other active Beaver to run the Griak previously and took 264th with a time of 27:52.0. Following close behind was freshman Carol Miller in 264th with a time of 27:54.6 and sophomore Amanda Hernesman with a time of 27:54.9. Freshman Natalie Fultz rounded out the BSU results in 285th with a time of 28:25.2.

Six of BSU’s eight competing student-athletes were running in their first career 6K. This is also the first time in Beaver Cross Country history that it has crossed two student-athletes among the top 50 finishers and also three among the top 103, in scoring position, at the Roy Griak since it began the 6K race in 2003.

Results for the Roy Griak Invite will be posted on following the race.

Following the Bob Waxlax Invite, the Beavers will take a two-week hiatus before traveling to Wayne, Neb., on Saturday, Oct. 23 for the 2021 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Cross Country Championships.
