DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (Wild Flower Golf Course) -- The Bemidji State University women's golf team broke the seal on the 2007-08 campaign Friday as it participated in the Cobber Invite at Wild Flower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Junior Jenna Schurman (Sauk Centre, Minn.) paced the squad shooting an 82 (+10) to settle into a tie for third place in the 18-hole event.

Schurman’s round of 82 equaled those University of North Dakota’s Lauryn Job and Laura Knutson of Carleton College just one shot of the lead. UND’s Laura Knutson and University of South Dakota’s Amber Luitjens tied for medallist honors (81, +9) as North Dakota cruised to a three-stroke advantage in the team competition (341).

Bemidji State team members competed as individuals only due to lack of participants. In order to score as a team, a school must count four scores towards a team total. BSU had three participants in the event. In addition to Schurman, newcomers Courtney Edwards and Marissa Mackedanz carded 99 and 101 respectively.

The Beavers continue 2007 action Saturday and Sunday as they participate in the Concordia College Invitational at Wild Flower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn. BSU golfers will hit the course beginning at 12:31 p.m. Saturday teeing off from hole No. 10.
