BSU women in sixth after day one of Maverick Invite

WASECA, Minn. (Lakeside Country Club) - Marissa Mackedanz (So., Paynesville, Minn.) fired a 45 on the back nine of the par 73, 5,839-yard Lakeside Country Club to finish the first round of the Maverick Invitational in 31st place with a 96 (+23). She paced a Bemidji State University squad that is in sixth place after the first day of the 36-hole event.

The Beavers posted a team total of 436 and head into day two of the invite trailing fifth place Missouri Western State University (374) by 62 strokes and are 97 shots off the pace set by the hosting Mavericks of Minnesota State University (339).

MSU's Trisha Schill carded a six-over par 79 to lead the field after the first 18 holes. She holds a four-shot edge over teammate Kayla Walker who is in second after a day-one total of 83 (+10).

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Winona State University holds down second place with team total of 352, while Truman State University is just three strokes back in third place (355). Southwest Minnesota State University finished the first round with a 366 to finish fourth.

Maverick Invitational play continues tomorrow when the six-team field wraps up the regional event. Teams are slated to open final-round play with morning tee times.
