WAYNE, Neb. -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team lifted the lid on the 2010 spring season Mar. 28-29 at the Wayne State Invitational at Wayne Country Club in Wayne, Neb. The duo of Marissa Mackedanz (Jr., Paynesville, Minn.) and Kathryn Stoffels (Fr., Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Beavers to a seventh-place finish posting matching 178s to tie for 23rd place.
Concordia University-St. Paul took top team honors recording a 36-hole total of 320-317--637 (+61); while Kate Tobin of Augustana College carded a 76-77--153 (+9) to garner medallist honors.
The BSU squad shot a 364 in the first round to sit seventh after 18 holes, while its 374 on day two was enough to fend off Minnesota State University, Moorhead to hold on seventh overall with 738 (+162).
Stoffels led all BSU participants on day one shooting an 84 (+12) and fired a 94 (+22) on the final day of play to settle into 23rd place along with teammate Mackedanz with 87-91--178 (+34). Also participating in the event were: Lindsay Morgan (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) 97-93--190 (+46) and Gretchen Trosen (Jr., Larimore, N.D.) 96-96--192 (+48).
Bemidji State returns to action April 10-11 when it travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. to participate in the Augustana Invitational.
