LAKE CITY, Minn. (The Jewel Golf Course) -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team finished seventh in the Maverick Invitational held at the, par 72, 6,135-yard, Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.
The Beavers shot a second-day total of 368 (+80) and when combined with their first-day 375 (+87), finished the two-day, 36-hole event with 743 (+167). BSU completed the event 100 strokes off the pace set by Minnesota State University, Mankato. The hosting Mavericks, who tied with Upper Iowa University after 18 holes, carded a second-day-low 319 (+31) to take top team honors (324-319--643; +67) by nine shots over Augustana College (326-326--652; +76).
Concordia University-St. Paul’s Laura Petterson fired a 73 (+1) on day two to slide up from fourth place to capture medallist honors. Her 36-hole total of 77-73--150 (+6) was good for a three-shot edge over the rest of the field.
The Beavers were led individually by Lindsay Morgan (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) who posted a two-day total of 92-91--183 (+39) to finish 33 shots off of Petterson’s pace in a tie with UIU’s Kelly Rowe for 37th place. Gretchen Trosen (Jr., Larimore, N.D.), who led BSU after day one, finished 42st with 88-98--186 (+42).
Bemidji State will be back in action April 24-25, when it travels west to Brandon, S.D. to compete in the 2009-10 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women’s Golf Championship. The event is set for the Brandon Country Club.
