Bemidji State finishes first round of 2010-11 NSIC championship in 10th
ST. PAUL, Minn. (Hillcrest Golf Club) -- Bemidji State University freshman Kathryn Stoffels (Maple Grove, Minn.) turned in a 13-over-par 85 Saturday to lead the BSU women’s golf team in the first round of the 2010-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship.  The Beavers carded a team total of 356 (+68) at the par-72 6,068-yard Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn. to sit in 10th place with 18 holes to play in the fall portion of the championship.

Stoffel’s 85 (+13) places her in a tie with Concordia University, St. Paul’s Monica Enderlin for 29th place individually, just 10 strokes off the lead.  BSU senior Marissa Mackedanz (Paynesville, Minn.) trails Stoffels by just a stroke (86, +14) and is tied for 31st place.

The duo of Allie Ostrander of Augustana College and Winona State University’s Michelle Narveson sit atop the leader board after finishing Saturday’s round at three-over-par, 75.  

Augustana leads the chase for the team championship after posting 308 (+20).  The Vikings hold a 15-stoke lead over Western New Mexico (323, +35) and the rest of the field.

The second round of the 72-hole NSIC championship will begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at Hillcrest Golf Club.  The final 36 holes of the unique conference championship will take place April 15-17 at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon, S.D.
