BSU women finish eighth at Classic Club Invitational
PALM DESERT, Calif. (Classic Club) -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team completed its 2011 spring trip Thursday with the final round of the Classic Club Invitational in Palm Desert, Calif. The Beavers finished in eighth place with a 413-385--798 (+222).

BSU trimmed 28 strokes from its first round of the spring, carding a 385 (+97), but was unable to make any headway in the team standings and finished day two of the 36-hole event right where it began the day--in eighth.

The Beavers’ two-day total of 798 left them 160 shots off the pace set by Grand Valley State University, which carded the low round of the invitational, 306 (+18), to rally from third place to garner the team title on the final day of competition.

The Lakers placed three golfers among the top, which included the invitational’s medallist.  Sarah Hoffman turned in scores of 79 and 75 to finish 10-over-par for the event at 154 and edge teammate Allie Tyler and Ashland University’s (Ohio) Annie Miles by two strokes (156) for individual honors.

Kathryn Stoffels (So., Maple Grove, Minn.) paced the Beavers finishing locked in a tie for 35th individually carding a 96-87--183 ( +39).  In addition to Stoffels, four other players contributed to the team score.  Newcomer Maria Sloan (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.) took 43rd with 101-97--198 (+54); Rachel Wold (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) turned in a 97 on day two to finish 46th with 110-97--207 (+63); senior Marissa Mackedanz (Paynesville, Minn.) posted a two-day total of 106-104--210 (+66) to sit in 48th; while Lindsay Morgan (So., Crookston, Minn.) rounded out the team’s scored in 50th with 110-107--217 (+73).

The second day of Classic Club Invitational competition concludes Bemidji State’s spring trip.  The next scheduled competition for the team is the Wayne State Invitational in Wayne, Neb. March 27-28.
