Bemidji State women rebound; Finish eighth at Maverick Invitational
LAKE CITY, Minn. (The Jewel Golf Course) -- One day removed from nearly unplayable conditions, weather improved and so did the scores at the 2011 Maverick Invitational in Lake City, Minn.  Each member of the five-person Bemidji State University women’s golf team individually trimmed a minimum four strokes from her day one performance Sunday, but the Beavers were unable to make up any ground as a team and finished the event in eighth place.

The Beavers eliminated 32 shots from thier Saturday total (379) on Sunday (347) to finish the 36-hole invitational at +150 (726) in eighth place.  BSU wrapped up the event 90 strokes off the pace set by team champion Augustana College (322-314--636/+60).

Kathryn Stoffels (Maple Grove, Minn.) fired the team low for the second straight day and finished tied for 32nd place at 31-over-par (92-83--175).  Freshman Rachel Wold (Crookston, Minn.) made the Beavers’ largest improvement Sunday slicing 12 shots from her day one total and  wound up tied for 36th place (96-84--180/+36). Marissa Mackedanz (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.) made a seven-shot improvement to take 41st at 41-over-par (96-89--185), while Lindsay Morgan (So., Crookston, Minn.) and Maria Sloan (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.) rounded out BSU’s team score in 42nd (95-91--186/+42) and 63rd (105-101--206/+62), respectively.

Upper Iowa University’s Jill Preeshl walked away with Maverick Invite individual medallist honors carding rounds of 79 and 74 to finish the event nine-over-par with 153.  She edged Augustana’s Katie Tobin (80-76--156/+12) by three shots.

The Beavers wrap up the regular season portion of their 2011 spring schedule next weekend when they travel to Brandon, S.D. to play the final three rounds of the 2010-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship at Brandon Golf Club.  

After the first two rounds of the 90-hole championship, played Oct. 9-10 at Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn., BSU sits ninth with 356-373--729 (+153). Mackedanz leads the BSU contingent with 86-91--177 (+133) for a share of 38th place.
