Bemidji State women move to eighth in NSIC Championship
BRANDON, S.D. (Brandon Golf Course) -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team carded a 351 (+67) Friday at Brandon Golf Course in Brandon, S.D. to move into eighth place in the 2010-11 NSIC Championships.  Sophomore Kathryn Stoffels (Maple Grove, Minn.) turned in a 12-over-par 83 Friday to lead the Beavers and sit 30th individually.

Today’s round marks the beginning of the spring portion of the unique conference tournament.  The NSIC Championship is comprised of four 18-hole rounds spread over six months. The first two rounds of the event were played Oct. 9-10 at Hillcrest Golf Club in St. Paul, Minn., while the final 36 holes, including today’s round, are scheduled for the par-71, 5,808-yard Brandon Golf Course.

The Beavers opened play Friday in tenth place with 356-373--729 (+153) after 36 holes, but a solid performance allowed the Beavers to slide into eighth overall with 356-373-351--1,080 (+220).

Just 18 holes separate Augustana College, which holds 52-stroke edge over the field after three rounds, from the 2010-11 conference title.  The Vikings are 64-over-par with 308-307-309--924.  The team is led by Emily Kvidera and Maggie Leland who are tied with Upper Iowa University’s Jill Preeshl atop the individual leaderboard at 14-over-par (229).

Stoffels’ 83 brings her championship total to 85-95-83--263 (+48).  She is joined by Marissa Mackedanz (Sr., Paynesville, Minn.), who is locked in a  tie for 33rd place with 86-91-91-268 (+53) and Maria Sloan (Fr., Coleraine, Minn.), who sits 37th at +59 (94-89-91--274), while Rachel Wold (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) and Lindsay Morgan (So., Crookston, Minn.) round out the BSU contingent in 40th and 41st at +64 (94-98-87--279) and +67 (91-101-90--282), respectively.

Bemidji State and the rest of the 11-team NSIC Championship field hit to course for the final round of the event at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
