Mustang Invitational next for BSU women
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team continues its fall season this weekend (Sept. 24-25) with a trip to Marshall, Minn. to participate in the 14th Annual Mustang Invitational.

The 36-hole event will take place at the 5,936-yard, par 72 Marshall Golf Club and is slated to begin at noon Saturday with final round action set for a 9 a.m. shotgun start Sunday.

A total of 95 golfers from 15 institutions are expected to compete in the event, including players from eight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) member teams.

Last year, Bemidji State finished 10th in the Mustang Invite and was led by Lindsay Morgan, who carded a 92-86--178 (+34) to finish tied for 54th individually. Current junior Kathryn Stoffels (Maple Grove, Minn.) was just one stroke back tied for 56th with a 91-88--179 (+35).

Augustana College shot 312-305--617 (+41) to take top team honors, while University of Hawaii-Hilo’s Randi Ono and Katie Schenfeld, from Gustavus Adolphus College shared medallist honors finishing the event at six-over-par (150).

The Beavers have been idle since opening the 2011 slate with a third-place finish at the Husky Invitational in St. Cloud, Minn. Sept. 10-11. Stoffels paced the team finishing ninth after turning in a 36-hole total of 89-92--181 (+36).

The 2011-12 BSU women’s golf team features many new faces.  Mark Bagaason took over as head coach in August and has five new faces on the roster to accompany four returning players headlined by veteran Stoffels.

Bemidji State returns home Sept. 30 to host an 18-hole triangular event at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.
