BSU women 13th midway through SMSU Mustang Invitational
MARSHALL, Minn. (Marshall Golf Club) -- Led by an 85 (+13) from junior Kathryn Stoffels (Maple Grove, Minn.) the Bemidji State University women’s golf team scored a 372 (+84) on the first day of the Mustang Invitational Saturday and sit 13th.

The Beavers 18-hole team score left them 73 stokes off the pace set by Augustana College, which fired an 11-over-par 299 to open the Invitational at the par-72, 5,936-yard Marshall Golf Club in Marshall, Minn.

Maggie Leland has the Vikings in the lead edging teammates Emily Kvidera (74) and Allie Ostrander (74) by a shot to sit atop the individual leaderboard after turning in a one-over-par 73.

In addition to Stoffels holding down 44th place, Rachel Wold (So., Crookston, Minn.) is tied for 68th with a 94 (+22), Maria Sloan (So., Coleraine, Minn.) is tied for 73rd with a 96 (+23) and Kailey Cox (Jr., Lethbridge, Alberta) and Rachel Kristofferson (Fr., Park Rapids, Minn.) posted matching 97s (+25) to sit tied for 75th.

Kaitlyn Sapone (So., Marine on St. Croix, Minn.) and Shelby Shevik (Omaha, Neb.) entered the invitational as individuals.  Sapone posted a 95 (+23) to enter day two tied for 75th place, while Shevik carded a 112 (+40) and is in 91st.

Competitors hit the Marshall Country Club tees at 9 a.m. tomorrow for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
