Sloan leads Bemidji State to BSU Invitational title

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and Country Club) -- Bemidji State University sophomore Maria Sloan (Coleraine, Minn.) carded an 89 (+17) Friday at the par-72, 5,901-yard Bemidji Town and Country Club to capture medalist honors and lead the Beavers to a team victory in the 2011 Bemidji State Invitational.

In thier first home event in more than 10 years, the Beavers scored a 367 (+79) to earn a 22-shot victory over visiting Minnesota State University, Moorhead (389 (101)) and the University of Minnesota, Crookston (439 (+151)).

Sloan's 89 was good enough to give her a one-stroke victory over teammates Rachel Wold (So., Crookston, Minn.), while the Beavers top four golfers held down the top four spots on the leaderboard.  Kailey Cox (Jr., Lethbridge, Alberta) and Rachel Kristofferson (Fr., Park Rapids, Minn.) tied for third place turning i matching score sof 91 (+19).

The Beavers next travel to Lake, City, Minn. Oct. 8-9 for the first two rounds of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship.  The unique league 72-hole event is played in two 36-hole events.  One will take place next weekend and the final 36 holes is set for Dakota Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn. April 21-22, 2012.
