Sloan, Wold and Menton garner Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week honors

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University golfers Maria Sloan (So., Coleraine, Minn.), Rachel Wold (So., Crookston, Minn.) and Danny Menton (Sr., Hutchinson, Minn.) have been named Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week after recording outstanding athletic performances during the week of March 26-April 2.
Sloan and Wold, who tied for 12th place individually posting matching scores of 181 (+37), led the BSU women’s golf team at the Wayne State Spring Invitational April 1-2. In the Beavers’ first event of the spring season, BSU carded scores of 375 and 362 to finish in second place with a 737 (+161).

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week selection marks the first for the BSU women’s golf team this spring season.  It is also the first of Wold’s career, while Sloan received the honor Oct. 5.  

Menton carded a three-under-par 141 (68-73) April 1-2 to earn a six-shot victory over the rest of the Wayne State Spring Invitational field.  The Hutchinson, Minn. native led from start to finish. He posted a NSIC 2012-best four-under-par 68 Sunday followed by a one-over-par 73 on Monday to cruise to individual medallist honors and lead the Beavers to a runner-up finish.

This week’s Beaver Pride Athlete of the Week award also marks the first for the BSU men’s golf team this season and of Menton’s collegiate career.

The Bemidji State women’s golf team returns to action April 21-22 when it travels to Morton, Minn. and Dakota Ridge Golf Course for the final two rounds of the 2011-12 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship. After playing the first 36 holes of the unique championship Oct. 8-9 at The Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Minn., the Beavers sit 10th overall led by BSU newcomer Rachel Kristofferson (Fr., Park Rapids, Minn.) who is 34th individually with 178 (+34).

The BSU men’s golf team jumps right back into action traveling to Fayette, Iowa to compete in the Upper Iowa Challenge April 6-7.
