Bemidji State women eighth after NSIC Championship opening round

BRAINERD, Minn. (The Classic at Madden's) -- The Bemidji State University women's golf team opened the 2012-13 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship with a 371 (+83) to sit eighth in the 13-team field at The Classic in Brainerd, Minn.

Bemidji State was led individually by Rachel Wold (Jr., Crookston, Minn.), who turned in a 14-over-par 86 to tie for seventh place entering round two tomorrow.

Augustana College leads the event after firing a 38-over-par 326.  The Vikings will open the second round owning a 14-stroke lead over second place Concordia University-St. Paul (340/+52) and the rest of the field.

AC's Allie Ostrander recorded a three-over-par 75 Saturday to claim a six-shot cushion on the rest of the 65 individuals competing in the league championship.

The teams are set to begin round two of the event tomorrow at 11 a.m.

The 2012-13 NSIC Championship is comprised of two 36-hold events. The fall portion of the league championship consists of two rounds of play at The Classic at Madden's in Brainerd, Minn.  The second half of the event will take place April 20-21 at Dachota Ridge in Morton, Minn.
