Bemidji State women’s golf team defends BSU Invitational title

BEMDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and CC) – The Bemidji State University golf team turned in four of the top five scores en route to a 38-stroke BSU Invitational victory Friday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

The defending event champion Beavers’ 18-hole team total of 340 (+52) gave the team its first victory of the 2013-14 season. Led by Individual medalist Katie Sheetz, the University of Minnesota Crookston took second place with 378 (+90), while Minnesota State University, Moorhead rounded out the field with a 380 (+96).

Olivia Knutson (So., Hatton, N.D.) and Monica Wold (So., Crookston, Minn.) led Bemidji State, carding matching 12-over-par 84s to tie for second place individually. Mary Elmquist (Fr., Elk River, Minn.) and Rachel Wold (Sr., Crookston, Minn.) were two stokes back tied for fourth place with 86 (+14).

Bemidji State wraps up its fall season Oct. 5-6 when it travels to Brainerd, Minn. and The Classic at Madden’s to complete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Fall Championship. The 36-hole event will serve as the first half of the unique conference championship. The final two rounds of the comprehensive 72-hole event will take place in the spring of 2014.
