Bemidji State women's golf opens 2014-15 with the Cobber Open

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women’s golf team will begin the 2014-15 season at the Concordia College Cobber Open in Detroit Lakes, Minn. Friday Sept. 5.

Bemidji State will compete in four events this fall before playing in the opening two rounds of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships Oct. 4-5 in Nisswa, Minn.

BSU lost its top two performers from last year’s squad in Olivia Knutson and Rachel Wold, but it returns an experienced group for 2014-15 as seven golfers have collegiate experience. The returners will be led by Mary Elmquist (So., Elk River, Minn.), Monica Wold (Jr., Crookston, Minn.) and Kelly Blair (Jr., International Falls, Minn.). Each member of the trio participated in at least 13 rounds and ranked third, fourth and seventh on the squad in scoring average last season, respectively.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Mark Bagaason, the BSU women’s golf team completed the 2013-14 season by finishing ninth at the NSIC Conference Championships. The Beavers, who won the BSU Invitational and the Dual in the Desert a year ago, feature a 2014-15 roster comprised of one senior, three juniors, three sophomores and one freshman.
