Beavers defend BSU Invitational title

BEMIDJI, Minn. (Bemidji Town and Country Club) -- Mary Elmquist (So., Andover, Minn.) carded an 83 (+11) to place second individually and lead the Bemidji State University women's golf team to a successful defense its team title at the par 72, 5,833-yard BSU Invitational Friday at the Bemidji Town and Country Club.

Elmquist and the eventual individual medalist, Katie Sheets of the University of Minnesota Crookston, were tied late in the round, but Sheets pulled away to claim her second BSU Invite crown in as many years at five over par (77).

In addition to Elmquist, Paige Tompkins (Jr., Milner, N.D.) and Monica Wold (Jr., Crookston, Minn.) finish among the top five individuals. Tompkins recorded an 86 (+14) to tie for third, while Wold's 16-over-par 88 left her in a tie for fifth.

The Beavers finished the 18-hole event with a team score of 346 (+58) to edge Minnesota Crookston (354/+66) by eight shots and capture top team honors.
