Bemidji State women's golf lifts lid on 2015 spring season Friday

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team will open its 2015 spring season this weekend as it travels to Sunnyside Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa to compete in the Upper Iowa Spring Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole event marks the Beavers’ first competition and first real course play since it capped the fall season at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship Oct. 4-5.

The Beavers finished the first two rounds of the 72-hole split-season championship in ninth place (388-354—742), 94 strokes off the pace set by Augustana College, which carded rounds of 321 and 327 (648/+72) to hold an 18-shot lead over Concordia University, St. Paul (336-330—666/+90) and the rest of the championship field. Mary Elmquist led the BSU contingent, turning in rounds of 97 and 82 for a 35-over-par 179.

Elmquist finished the fall season as BSU’s top golfer. The sophomore posted an 85.0 scoring average in eight rounds. She recorded a BSU-low round at 79 (+7) and posted three top 20 finishes, which included a runner-up finish (83/+11) at the BSU Invitational, Sept. 26.

The UIU Spring Invitational kicks off BSU’s three-event spring season in preparation for the final two rounds of the NSIC Championship, April 25-26, at Dakota Ridge Golf Course in Morton, Minn.
