MORTON, Minn. (Dacotah Ridge GC) -- Junior Mary Elmquist led the Bemidji State University women's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the 2014-15 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship, April 24-25, carding rounds of 87 (+15) and 89 (+17) to finish the 72-hole event at 67 over par in 24th place individually.
Elmquist, who entered the final 36 holes of the split-season event in 24th and rose to as high as 21st at the end of the third round, but settled back into the 24th spot with a cumulative total of 97-82-87-89--355, 43 shots off the pace set by individual medalist Sierra Langlie of Augustana College. Langlie posted a 312 (77-78-80-77) to finish with a seven-stroke lead over the rest of the field at 24 over par.
Langlie paced an Augustana team, which placed three individuals among the top-10 en rout to its sixth consecutive conference title. The Vikings posted a team total of 1,284 (321-327-320-316) to finish 132 over par and hold a 22-shot advantage over Concordia University-St. Paul (1,306/+154) and the rest of the field.
Bemidji State carded a team total of 1,447 (388-354-353-352) to finish just two shots behind eighth-place Winona State University.
The championship serves as the Beavers' final event of the 2014-15 season. Under the direction of Head Coach Mark Bagaason, BSU completed the seven-event season with two top-three team finishes, including a BSU Invitational championship. Elmquist led the team, posting an 86.6 18-hole scoring average in 14 rounds. She recorded two top-10 finishes in 2014-15.
Bemidji State will get the 2015-16 season underway in early September.
