Bemidji State Women’s Golf voted to finish 10th in NSIC Preseason Coaches’ Poll

BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women’s Golf team earned 52 points in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Women’s Golf Preseason Coaches’ Poll to finish 10th in the poll voted on by league coaches. Sophomore Mollie Albrecht was tabbed as the Beavers’ Preseason Women’s Golf Golfer to Watch.

Augustana University who has won 10 of the last 11 NSIC Championships was picked to win the league again in the preseason poll after earning nine-of-13 first-place votes and totaling 139 points. Minnesota State University finished in second with two first-place votes and 122 points while Concordia University-St. Paul finished third with one first-place vote and 106 points.

Albrecht begins her sophomore campaign with the BSU Women’s Golf team after finishing second on the team with a scoring average of 86.6 in nine rounds last season and tied for 24th at the NSIC Spring Championship.

She is joined by letter-winners Taiylor Ellingson, Jocelyn Nyblom, Morgan Sammon, Maddy Sawyer and Grace Van Brocklin as returners to the team while head coach Jim Jensen has added three freshmen to the team in Vaida Behnke, Savannah Byfuglien and Katie Leblanc.

Upper Iowa University’s MacKayla Olsen was voted as the Preseason Women’s Golf Golfer of the Year after earning the 2021 NSIC Women’s Golf Medalist honors last season and held the second-best stroke average in the NSIC at 78.9.

Albrecht and the rest of the BSU Women’s Golf team opens the 2021 Fall season Sept. 13-14 when they host the Tracy Lane Memorial Tournament at the Bemidji Town and Country Club. The Beavers will play a total of four tournaments during the fall season.
