ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State Huskies scored two power-play goals and one shorthanded marker to earn a 3-1 victory and two-game sweep of Bemidji State at the National Hockey Center this afternoon. With the sweep, SCSU evens the season series at 2-2 with the Beavers.

Despite being outshot 10-7 by BSU in the opening period, St. Cloud State got on the board first at the 18:13 mark of the first stanza, as Roxanne Stang improved upon her six-point effort on Friday night with a shorthanded goal, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers evened the score at 1-1 just 30 seconds later, however, as frosh Kate Robinson tallied her fifth goal of the year off helpers from Jenny Schnickel and Nicky Kluck. Robinson now has scored at least one point in four consecutive contests.

That would be the only scoring BSU could muster in the game though and St. Cloud State used power-play scores from Ashley Stewart at 1:07 of the second period and Roxanne Stang at the 19:04 mark of the third period to secure a 3-1 win. Stang finished with six points on Friday night (2-4) and three points (1-2) on Saturday for a two-game total of nine points (3-6-9).

Sophomore netminder Jill Luebke stopped 22 shots in the loss for the Beavers and her season record is now 3-9-1.

The loss drops Bemidji State’s record to 4-15-1 and 2-12-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. St. Cloud State improves to 6-14-1 and 3-10-1 in WCHA action. The Beavers will be back in action next weekend with a home-and-home series with future WCHA member North Dakota. BSU will challenge the Fighting Sioux on Friday, Jan. 16 at the John Glas Fieldhouse and then travel to Grand Forks, ND on Sunday, Jan. 18 to play the rubber match at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. Friday night and 2:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
