MADISON, WIS. - The Bemidji State University women’s hockey team was picked to finish fifth in the WCHA Coaches Poll released today. The Beavers received 15 points, while Minnesota was selected as the preseason favorite, garnering five first place votes and 35 overall.

Head coach Bruce Olson is comfortable with where the Beavers stack up in the poll.

“This is where we expected to be, but this team wants to improve upon last year’s fifth place finish in the WCHA,” Olson said.

Three-time defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth, which received two first-place votes, is picked to finish second with 26 points. Rounding out the poll are Wisconsin (26), Ohio State (20), Minnesota State (13) and St. Cloud State (6).

BSU went 9-17-7 last season, including a 5-13-6 mark in WCHA play. The Beavers finished fifth in league action and advanced to the WCHA Final Five before falling to Ohio State, 4-3, in overtime.

Bemidji State will host Manitoba for an exhibition game at 7:05 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, at the John Glas
