Bemidji State Ties Wayne State 2-2

BEMIDJI, MINN. - The Bemidji State women’s hockey team tied Wayne State 2-2 this afternoon in a non-conference contest at the John Glas Fieldhouse. BSU ended the weekend series with the Warriors 1-0-1.
Unlike Friday night, Wayne State got on the board first just 2:34 into the game when Heidi Burns beat goalkeeper Jill Luebke to put the Warriors in front 1-0.

Freshman Kelly Hart evened the score at 1-1 off a rebound at the 5:28 mark of the first period. It was Hart’s third point of the weekend, including her second goal of the season. Freshman Nina Ziegenhals was credited with an assist on the goal.

The score remained tied at 1-1 until 6:49 of the second period as Emily Agg-McGrath tallied her second goal of the series to put Wayne State ahead 2-1.

The Beavers elevated their play in the third period and freshman Nikki Eckebrecht provided the game tying goal with just 3:23 left in the third period, notching her first collegiate goal and second career point.

Neither team was able to break the tie in the overtime session allowing the game to end in a 2-2 tie.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jill Luebke played strong between the pipes with 26 saves in the game. Luebke has a 3-3-6 career record at BSU.

The Beavers are now 11-2-1 all-time against Wayne State.

The tie brings BSU’s record to 1-0-1 overall. The Beavers open their Western Collegiate Conference season on Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18, at three-time defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth. The puck will drop at 7:05 for both games.
