Minnesota State Sweeps BSU With 3-1 Victory

BEMIDJI, MINN. - Minnesota State defeated the BSU women’s hockey team 3-1 this afternoon to complete a two-game series sweep of the Beavers. The Mavericks are now 3-0-2 in their last five meetings against BSU.

Minnesota State jumped out to a 1-0 lead at the 13:58 mark of the first period when Shera Vis put the puck past goalkeeper Jill Luebke.

Despite outshooting Minnesota State 19 to nine in the first two periods, the Beavers trailed 1-0 entering the third period.

In the third period Minnesota State took command of the contest as Alycia Wilson tallied a short-handed goal at the 4:51 mark and Kristina Koga scored on the power play at 7:33 of the period.

With the score 3-0, the Beavers finally got on the board with a power play goal from Carly Napier at the 12:21 mark of the third stanza. BSU was unable to solve Shari Vogt again and the Mavericks solidified a 3-1 win.

Minnesota State goaltender Shari Vogt compiled another strong performance with 29 saves for the Mavericks. Sophomore Jill Luebke stopped 15 shots in the loss for the Beavers.

BSU is now 1-4-1 overall and 0-4-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. The Beavers will look to get back on the winning track in a non-conference series against Mercyhurst on Friday, Oct. 31 and
Saturday, Nov. 1. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. both days at the John Glas Fieldhouse.
