BEMIDJI, MINN. - The sixth-ranked Wisonsin Badgers (6-3-0, 2-3-0 WCHA) erupted for three unanswered goals to edge the Bemidji State women’s hockey team 4-1 Friday night at the John Glas Fieldhouse. The Beavers have now dropped seven consecutive games.

Despite being outshot 8-4 in the first period, BSU held Wisconsin scoreless until 16:38 of the period as frosh Bobbi-Jo Slusar lit the lamp to put the Badgers in front 1-0.

The score remained 1-0 until frosh Kate Robinson netted her first collegiate goal on the power play with just two seconds left in the second stanza. Frosh Nina Ziegenhals added her second assist of the season on the goal.

UW would earn the upper hand in the third period, however, as the Badgers rattled off 18 shots, connecting with goals on three of those shots. Senior Karen Rickard capitalized on a BSU penalty to secure the game winner at 6:04 of the period. Wisconsin put the game further out of reach with two more markers to finish with a 4-1 triumph.

Head coach Bruce Olson was puzzled by his team’s third period performance.

“We had two pretty good periods that I was happy with, but then in the third period we just don’t have the desire yet to really dig down and compete,” Olson said.

For the game the Badgers outshot the Beavers 34 to 13.

Sophomore Jill Luebke finished with 30 saves in goal, while frosh Christine Dufour stopped 12 shots between the pipes for Wisconsin.

BSU is now 1-7-1 overall and 0-5-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association competition. The Beavers will try to salvage a series split with the Badgers on Saturday afternoon at the John Glas Fieldhouse. The puck will drop at 2:05 p.m..
