FINDLAY, Ohio. - The Bemidji State women’s hockey team took advantage of power-play goals from Guylaine Haché and Kelly Hart to knock off Findlay (4-5-1, 0-3-1) 3-1 Tuesday night in Findlay, Ohio. The win snaps a 10-game losing streak for the Beavers.

BSU jumped on the scoreboard first at the 16:35 mark of the opening period when sophomore Cassi Petsch tallied her first goal of the season off helpers from frosh Jenn Sadler and frosh Kate Robinson. Sadler’s assist was the first point of her collegiate career.

The Oilers tied the score at 1-1 just 48 seconds into the second period with a power-play goal from Heidi Tallqvist.

The Beavers power-play then went to work later in the second session, as senior Guylaine Haché notched her first marker of the year at the 5:26 mark to put BSU ahead 2-1. Less than two minutes later, frosh Kelly Hart lit the lamp with her team-leading third goal of the season to give the Beavers an insurance goal.

The two-power play goals scored by BSU marks a season high. The Beavers netted three power-play tallies in a 6-2 win over Minnesota State during the 2002-03 campaign (10-25-02).

Findlay was unable to solve goaltender Jill Luebke in the third period, giving BSU a 3-1 victory. Luebke picked up her second win after stopping 24 shots, while Jessica Moffat made 18 saves for the Oilers.

Bemidji State was outshot 21-25 for the game.

Head coach Bruce Olson praised his players work ethic.

“This is a great win for our team and it is exactly what we needed on a tough road trip like this,” Olson said. “We played a really solid third period and the players got to feel what it’s like to play with a lead, which is something that has not happened for quite a while.”

The Beavers are now 0-8-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play and 2-10-1 overall. BSU will look to earn its first sweep of the season tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Clauss Ice Arena.
