Findlay Earns Spilt Over Bemidji State With 4-2 Victory

FINDLAY, Ohio. - The Findlay Oilers (5-6-1, 0-3-1 CHA) tallied three unanswered goals in the final period of regulation to defeat the Bemidji State women’s hockey team 4-2 this afternoon at Clauss Ice Arena. BSU is now 6-2-1 all-time against Findlay.

UF opened the scoring at the 6:50 mark of the first period with a lamplighter from junior Heidi Tallqvist, which marked the only scoring in the first stanza.

The Beavers elevated their level of play in the second session scoring two goals in a span of three minutes. Sophomore Sarah Zuelke notched a power-play tally at 8:03, while sophomore Carly Napier put the puck in the back of the net again at the 10:53 mark to put BSU in front 2-1.

Napier also picked up her first assist of the year on Zuelke’s marker and sophomore Melissa Schaeffer was credited with a helper on Napier’s goal.

The Oilers turned the tables on the Beavers in the third period, as UF connected on three of its 15 shots on goal. Two power-play goals proved to be the difference, as Heidi Tallqvist tied the score at 2-2 with her second goal of the afternoon at 8:04 and Hailey Clarkson provided the gamewinner at 12:34. Clarkson tacked on a shorthanded score to solidify a 4-2 triumph for Findlay.

For the game UF was 2-5 on the power-play compared to a 1-5 clip for BSU.

Senior Anik Côté stopped 26 shots for Bemidji State, while Jessica Moffat made 20 saves for the home team.

The Beavers move to 2-11-1 overall and 0-8-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association competition. BSU will travel to Ridder Arena for a pair of contests with the number-one ranked team in the country, Minnesota (9-0-1, 7-0-1 WCHA), on Friday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 6. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m. Friday night and 4:05 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
