Minnesota Sweeps Bemidji State With 6-1 Win

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota received three points from La Toya Clarke and Lyndsay Wall to secure a 6-1 victory and two-game sweep of the Bemidji State women’s hockey team this afternoon at Ridder Arena. The Golden Gophers are now 16-0-3 all-time against the Beavers and are unbeaten in their last 14 games.

Minnesota came out strong in the opening period, scoring three goals in the first six minutes of the contest. La Toya Clarke put the Gophers on the board at 1:04, while Natalie Darwitz lit the lamp at 3:24 and Lyndsay Wall scored the Gophers third tally at 5:58. The scores by Darwitz and Wall each came on the Minnesota power-play.

Senior Anik Côté replaced sophomore Jill Luebke between the pipes after Luebke stopped five shots and allowed three goals.

UM struck again at 10:59 of the first period when Clarke netted her second marker of the evening pushing the Golden Gopher lead to 4-0.

Minnesota added two additional scores in the second stanza off goals from Becky Wacker and Krista Johnson to build a 6-0 advantage.

BSU finally lit up the scoreboard at 19:22 of the third period as frosh Helana Tageson notched her second goal of the season. Kelly Hart and Nikki Eckebrecht each were credited with helpers on the goal.

The Golden Gophers outshot the Beavers 44-19 on the afternoon and 30-6 in the first two periods of play.

Netminder Anik Côté finished with 33 saves in goal for Bemidji State.

The Beavers now own a 2-13-1 overall record and are 0-10-0 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play. BSU will look to earn its first WCHA win of the season with a pair of contests with St. Cloud State on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 at the John Glas Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Friday and 2:05 p.m Saturday.
