GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Behind Sherrie White’s three-point effort, North Dakota defeated the Bemidji State women’s hockey team 5-3 this afternoon at Ralph Engelstad Arena. The win gives UND a four-game season sweep of the Beavers.

BSU got on the board first, just 38 seconds into the opening period, as Guylaine Haché netted her fourth tally of the year to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead. Melissa Schaeffer earned an assist on the goal.

The Fighting Sioux tied the game up at 1-1 at the 6:02 mark, when Meghan Hopps secured her second goal of the season.

The Beavers regained the lead at 15:11 as sophomore Laura Lankton tabbed her first collegiate goal off a helper from Jenny Schnickel. UND knotted the game at 2-2 just over two minutes later when Aynsley Allen scored her first goal of the season.

Bemidji State jumped ahead of North Dakota once more with a power-play score in the second stanza, as frosh Kelly Hart lit the lamp with her team-leading ninth goal of the season at 2:48. Helena Tageson and Emily Curcuruto each earned assists on the score.

After giving up the third goal, UND netminder Margaret Ann-Hinkley was replaced by Amber Hasbargen, which proved to be the difference for the Fighting Sioux. Hasbargen stopped 22 shots in just over 37 minutes and the home team would score the game’s final three goals.

The Fighting Sioux put the game out of reach with back-to-back power-play goals from Jessica Kovacevich and Sherrie White at 6:53 and 16:40 of the second period.

Hasbargen was the story in the final period of regulation, as she stopped all 13 BSU shots while North Dakota was being outshot 13-5. Stasia Bakhit added an empty-net goal to solidify a 5-3 triumph for the Fighting Sioux.

For the game the Beavers outshot UND 36-28.

BSU compiled a one-for-four mark on the power play, compared to the Fighting Sioux’s two-for-six clip.
