Bemidji State head women’s ice hockey coach Bruce Olson today announced the addition of Shanty Bay, Ontario native Kate Robinson to BSU’s 2003-’04 signing class. The addition of Robinson, a 5-7 center, brings Olson’s signing class to seven.

• Kate Robinson (C, 5-7, Shanty Bay, Ontario; Sept. 2, 1984) - Robinson scored 29-27=56 points for the Aurora Panthers a year ago, leading the squad to the International Silver Stick Gold Medal in the Intermediate AA division. Robinson also helped the team to a gold medal at the Beatrice Aero Intermediate AA and the Willowdale Red Wings tournaments. The Panthers also were league finalists in the North Metro Gilrs Hockey League Intermediate Tier 1. Robinson was also a four-year captain of the Barrie Sharks from 1999-2002.

Robinson spent just four minutes in the penalty box in 75 games played last year.

OLSON on Robinson: "I thought she was really a total package when I watched her. She did a lot of things right on the ice. She’s a strong power forward. She’s strong on the puck and smart with the puck. She knew when to make plays, when to chip the puck out of her own zone and when to dump it in. She’s very aggressive on the forecheck, and I thought she picked up the right person on the backcheck and drove them all the way to the net. She brings a lot of good things to our program and I really feel she still has lots of room to improve. It’s going to be interesting for me to watch her progress. I feel she’s going to develop into a very good all-around hockey player."

Robinson joins Nina Ziegenhals, Helena Tageson, Amy Zyllo, Nikki Eckebrecht, Kelly Hart and Jenn Sadler in BSU’s 2003-’04 class. The class includes four forwards and three defensemen.

BSU opens its 2003-’04 campaign Friday, Oct. 10 with a two-game home series against the Wayne State (Mich.) Warriors.
