Bemidji State falls to No. 10 Minnesota State 3-0

BEMIDJI , Minn. - Bemidji State (1-5-1, 0-5-0) was looking for its first Western Collegiate Hockey Conference victory of the season as they played host to #10 Minnesota State (5-2-1, 4-1-1) at the John Glas Fieldhouse on Friday evening.

At the end of one period of play Bemidji State trailed Minnesota State by a score of 1-0. At 14:09 in the first period Minnesota State’s Amber Sharratt scored a power play goal, her first goal of the season to give the Mavericks the early 1-0 lead. Bemidji State out shot the Mavericks by a margin of 12-8 in the first period but was unable to find the back of the net.

Minnesota State added to its lead at the 13:50 mark of the second period when they capitalized on the power-play for the second time of the game. Felicia Nelson put the Mavericks up 2-0, scoring her fifth goal of the season, assisting on the goal was Amanda Stohr and Maggie Fisher.

Despite being out-shot 13-4 in the second period sophmore netminder Emily Brookshaw (Webster, Wis) kept the Beavers close allowing just two goal through two periods of play.

Bemidji State came out in the third period and out-shot the Mavericks 9-7 but was still unable to get the puck past the Mavericks netminder Britni Kehler.

Minnesota State would add some insurance in the third period as Maggie Fisher would score her eigth goal of the season to put the Mavericks up 3-0. Minnesota State held off the Bemidji State flurry in the third period to keep the shut-out intacked.

Minnesota State Maverick goaltender Britni Kehler stopped all twenty-five shots she faced to get the shutout victory fo the Mavericks. Kehler is now 5-1-0 on the season.

For Bemidji State Emily Brookshaw had twenty-five saves in the losing effort for the Beavers. Brookshaw’s record fell to 0-3-1 on the season.

The series finale between these two teams will be held on Saturday afternoon at the John Glas Fieldhouse. The contest is slated to start at 2:07 p.m.
