Luebke to participate in NCAA Skills Challenge

BEMIDJI , Minn. - Bemidji State senior goaltender Jill Luebke (Neenah, Wis.) has been selected as one of two female goaltenders to participate on the West team in the NCAA Skills Challenge this Friday, April 7th at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis.

Luebke is the first Bemidji State hockey player (men or women) to be selected to compete in the Skills Challenge. Luebke concluded her eligibility during the 2005-06 season. Luebke was a steady force between the pipes throughout her four years as a Beaver. Throughout her career Luebke appeared in 72 games attaining a career save percentage of .880 and a goals against average of 3.77. She compiled 15 victories in her career and amassed 1721 saves, which puts her second all-time at BSU in both categories. Also, during her career at Bemidji State she captured WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors four times and National Defensive Player of the Week twice.

The Skills Challenge will include the puck control relay, hardest shot, fastest skater, rapid fire shooting contests and penalty shot. The competition will be held in an East versus West format with each team having six male position players, six female position players, two male goaltenders and two female goaltenders.

To be eligible, all players must have exhausted their collegiate eligibility and be nominated by their head coach. The players were selected by representatives from the American College Hockey Coaches Association, the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee and the National Youth Sports Corporation.

The Skills Challenge is slated to start at 7 p.m. Central Time and will be televised on ESPNU.
