Ohio State’s offense downs BSU 5-2
Erin Cody (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) had two goals agains the Buckeyes in Friday's night game in Columbus, Ohio. However, the Beavers were unable to capitalize and lost the game 5-2.
Columbus, Ohio — Ohio State’s Hokey Langan had four goals and one assist in Friday night’s game, as the Buckeyes defeated the Bemidji State women’s hockey team 5-2 at the OSU Ice Rink. The loss snaps BSU’s unbeaten streak at five games (1-0-4).

With the loss Bemidji State (7-12-6, 6-7-6-3 WCHA) is now only two points ahead of Ohio State (12-9-4, 9-8-2-0 WCHA) in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association standings. BSU holds fourth place in the conference with 21 points.

Erin Cody (Jr., Roseville, Minn.) scored both goals for the Beavers. The first came on the power play with four second remaining in the first period. The goal tied the game at one-a-piece as both sides headed to their locker rooms for intermission. Defenders Montana Vichorek (So., Moose Lake, Minn.) and Erika Wheelhouse (Fr., Crookston, Minn.) both tallied assists on the goal.

The only scoring in the second period was done by Langan as she netted a power-play goal to put OSU up 2-1.

More goals were scored in the third period than were scored in the first two. Cody netted her second goal to tie the game back up, this time at a score of 2-2. Franny Dorr (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) recorded a helper on the goal. The BSU offensive burst would be short-lived as Ohio State scored three unanswered goals to walk away with the win. One goal was on the power play and the final goal of the game was scored on an empty net.

Beaver tender Zuzana Tomcikova (So., Bratislava, Slovakia) posted 37 saves on 41 shots, 17 of her saves came in the third period.

Bemidji State only out-shot Ohio State during the second period, 15-12, but was out-shot by the Buckeyes in the entirety of the game 42-30.

The BSU defense chipped in, blocking a total of 19 shots.

Erika Wheelhouse is now fourth on the team in scoring with 11 points (0G, 11A), which leads all freshmen and defenders.

With the two goals, Erin Cody now has 30 in her career as a BSU Beaver. She currently ranks ninth on the BSU women’s hockey all-time scoring list with 61 career-points (30G, 31A).

Bemidji State will return tomorrow to finish off their regular-season series against the Buckeys at 1:07 p.m. The game will be the last regular-season game for Zuzana Tomcikova before she joins the Slovakian Women’s National Hockey team in preparations for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
