BEMIDJI, Minn. — Wayne State scored three third-period goals to defeat the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse. The Warriors improve to 3-3-2 (0-0-0 CHA) on the season while the Beavers drop to 2-7-1 (1-2-1-1 WCHA).

“We had chances to answer, especially when it was close,” said head coach Steve Sertich. “Even when the score was lopsided there toward the end our kids were out there battling and blocking shots, and that’s a credit to the type of players we have.”

Special teams were the biggest factor in the game. Wayne State capitalized on three of their five power-play chances, while Bemidji State went scoreless on the power play.

The Warriors had a team effort as 11 different players contributed to the six-goal offensive.

Franny Dorr (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) scored the lone goal for the Beavers in the first period. She received the puck after a quick draw by Erin Babineau (So., St. Paul, Minn.) on the face off, putting it top shelf past Warrior goalie Lindsey Park.

Alana McElhinney (So., Calgary, Alberta) was in net for the Beavers making 18 saves.

Next up for Bemidji State is a trip to Mankato, as the Beavers will take on the Minnesota State Mavericks on Friday at 7:07 p.m. and on Saturday at 3:07 p.m.
