BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State Women’s hockey program will hold a reception honoring BSU Olympian Zuzana Tomcikova (So., G, Bratislava, Slovakia). The public is invited join the women’s hockey team and staff on Tuesday, April 13th, 2010 to honor Tomcikova and her accomplishments. The reception will be held in the Beaver Pride Room of the John S. Glas Fieldhouse from 4:30-6 p.m.  There is no charge and refreshments will be provided for all in attendance.

In the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Tomcikova played in all five games for the Slovakian National Women’s Ice Hockey Team. In those five games she faced 235 shots on goal, more than any other goaltender, male or female, in the 2010 Winter Games. Playing against the top teams in the world, Tomcikova became a fan favorite, and represented her country and the BSU Women’s Hockey program with style and integrity.

In the 2009-10 campaign, she posted a .938 save percentage, which was good for second place among conference goaltenders. Her goals against average of 2.06 is good for third in the league. She also broke a school record for most shutouts recorded in a single season posting five scoreless games.

After helping to lead the Beavers to their first-ever appearance in the WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF, Tomcikova was named 2010 WCHA Co-Player of the Year, while also being named to the Second Team All-WCHA.
