BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) -- The University of North Dakota used a three-goal second period to spark a 4-1 Western Collegiate Hockey Association victory over Bemidji State University Saturday at Sanford Center.

Junior forward Rachael Kelly (Rosemount, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season, but that was all the offense the Beavers could muster as UND goaltender Lexie Shaw turned aside 22 shots to gain the victory.

Trailing 1-0 after 20 minutes of play, BSU saw UND post three goals during the first 15 minutes of the second frame.

At the 16:54 mark, Kelly would get Bemidji State on the board, when she tipped in a power-play goal with help from Stephanie Anderson (F, So., North St. Paul, Minn.) and Lauren Miller (F, Fr., Brockville, Ontario).

BSU would finish the afternoon scoring on one of six power-play opportunities, while UND was held scoreless on all four of its power-play chances.

Jessica Havel (G, Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) got the nod for her first start of the season, but after allowing four goals on 25 shots. Freshman Brittni Mowat (G, Glenboro, Manitoba) inserted for the final period. Mowat allowed one goal and posted 11 saves in 20 minutes of relief for Havel.

Bemidji State, now 3-6-0 overall and 0-4-0-0 in WCHA play, travels to The Ohio State University Nov. 8-9 in search of its first league victory. The series will get underway Friday at 7:07 p.m., while the opening face off for the series finale is scheduled for 4:07 p.m.
