COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5/6 Bemidji State University women’s hockey team defeated Ohio State University 3-1 Saturday, despite being out-shot in the game 33-25. Ohio State came out strong in the first period and out-shot the Beavers 12-5, but junior goaltender Brittni Mowat was flawless in the period and each team skated into the first intermission tied at 0-0.
Miller broke the scoreless tie 5:09 into the second period to put the Beavers up 1-0 with her fourth goal of the season. The Buckeyes increased pressure on the Beavers defense after the goal, and with 3:57 left, Kendall Curtis tied the game at 1-1.
The Beavers and Buckeyes skated evenly throughout the first half of the third period, until Terres put the Beavers on top, 2-1, with a power-play goal with 11:42 remaining. Tougas scored her first goal of the season when she increased the Beavers lead to 3-1 on the empty net.
Mowat earned her 10th win of the season and improved her record to 10-2-1 on the season after stopping 32-of-33 shots by the Buckeyes.
