Mowat earns 15th career shutout after 2-0 win over Bulldogs

DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 7 Bemidji State University women’s hockey team swept its season series with the University of Minnesota Duluth after blanking the Bulldogs, 2-0 Saturday afternoon. Junior Brittni Mowat earned her 15th career shutout, fourth of the season, after stopping all 27 shots by UMD.

The season sweep by the Beavers marks the first time in program history that Bemidji State has swept the Bulldogs during the regular season and is their fifth-straight win against UMD

Kaitlyn Tougas and Madison Hutchinson each scored for Bemidji State while Reilly Fawcett, Whitney Wivoda, Stephanie Anderson, and Alexis Joyce each tallied assists.

After a scoreless first period, Bemidji State opened the scoring by scoring their third power-play goal of the series off the stick of Tougas 10:22 into the second period.

Hutchinson gave the Beavers a 2-0 lead off a shot from the right circle just 1:46 into the third period and looked to rely on Mowat to seal the season series sweep against the Bulldogs. Mowat and the Beaver defense remained strong and earned the sweep with the 2-0 victory.

Bemidji State will return home next weekend and will host No. 3 University of Minnesota, Jan. 29-30.
