Beavers score five goals in opening exhibition versus Regina

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Junior defenseman Kara Werth netted two goals to lead the Bemidji State Women’s Hockey team to a 5-1 victory over the University of Regina in exhibition play, Friday night. Bemidji State outshot the Cougars 33-15 in the game and saw four different goal scorers through the night.

Senior Haley Mack started the scoring for the Beavers by scoring just 1:21 into the opening period. The first period would end with the same score showing and the score remained the same unit Regina’s Jayce Magwood netted a power-play goal 8:13 into the second period.

The Beavers responded quickly however, when senior Kiki Radke scored all alone with a hard wrist shot from the top of the left circle just 33 seconds later. Werth then scored her first marker seven minutes later to end the period with a 3-1 lead.

The third period was all BSU as the shots favored the Beavers 10-4 while Werth tallied her second goal of the game at 10:22 followed by a last minute fifth goal by junior Lydia Passolt at 18:19 to conclude the game.

Mack and Passolt followed Werth by posting a goal and assist each while junior Clair DeGeorge recorded two assists and Lindsey Featherstone, Jacqueline Kaasa, Abby Halluska and Graysen Myers each added an assist.

Bemidji State used all three of its goaltenders in the exhibition with sophomore Lexi Baker earning the start while junior Kerigan Dowhy came in to play the second and redshirt junior Lauren Bench played the final period. Dowhy earned the win after BSU scored twice during the middle frame and led the team with seven saves but allowed the lone goal for the Cougars.
