BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Bemidji State University women’s hockey goaltender Lauren Bench has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week for her efforts during the weekend of Nov. 22-23. The redshirt junior earns the award for the second time this season and is the fourth of her career.
The Eagan native led the Beavers (5-8-1, 4-6-0-0 WCHA) to its first road series sweep of the season at Minnesota State University, Mankato by stopping 50-of-52 shots over the weekend. Bench began the series with her first shutout of the season by stopping all 30 shots by the Mavericks in a 1-0 game one victory. She then followed by stopping 20-of-22 shots in game two as the Beavers defeated the Mavericks 5-2.
Bench led all WCHA goaltenders by posting a .962 save percentage and was second with a 1.00 goals against average. She finished fourth in the league with 50 saves and was the lone goaltender to post a shutout over the weekend.
Bench and the rest of the Beavers squad travels east this weekend to Troy, N.Y., to face Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a non-conference series, Nov. 29-30.
