BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Bemidji State University women’s hockey freshman Reece Hunt was selected as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for February after leading all league rookies in scoring.
Hunt, a native of Nelson, B.C., paced all WCHA rookies with five goals during the month and tied for the overall lead with seven points. She scored all of her goals at even strength and posted two multi-goal games during the month including her first career hat trick versus No. 4/3 University of Minnesota. Hunt also scored both goals in the Beavers’ thrilling 2-1 four-overtime victory over No. 9 University of Minnesota Duluth in game two of the WCHA Quarterfinals Feb. 29. She led all league freshman with 23 shots on goal and was +1 on the ice during the month.
Hunt joins redshirt junior Lauren Bench as lone BSU women’s hockey members to earn monthly accolades by the WCHA after Bench was tabbed the WCHA Goaltender of the Month for December.
University of Wisconsin’s Daryl Watts was named the WCHA Offensive Player of the Month while Ohio State University’s Jincy Dunne and goaltender Andrea Braendli were named the league’s defensive player and goaltender of the month.
Hunt finishes her freshman campaign tied for third on the team and third among league rookies in scoring with 19 points off of seven goals and 12 assists.
