Stepped between pipes 10 times on the season with eight starts...recorded the most saves in a single-game win, backstopping the Beavers with 56 saves to defeat then-No. 1 Mercyhurst 5-3 on Oct. 16, 2010...the win over the top-ranked Mercyhurst was the first ever for the Beavers over a No. 1 team and also marked the first win in the newly opened Bemidji Regional Event Center for both the men’s and women’s hockey programs...tallied 235 saves on the season...made 43 saves in a 3-2 overtime loss to the eventual national champions Wisconsin on Feb. 5, 2011...named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 20, 2010...became the fourth BSU goalie to be named a captain.

2009-10 (Sophomore)

Saw action in 13 games, starting 11...took over starting duties when teammate Zuzana Tomcikova left for an eight-game span to participate in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in those eight games McElhinney rose to the occasion recording a .913 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average, she recorded her first WCHA victory and career shutout blanking Wisconsin on Feb. 7, 2010...on the season she played 760:18 minutes making 339 saves while recording a .897 save percentage and a 3.08 goals against average...came in for relief in the WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF and only surrendered one goal on 13 shots in 34:54 minutes worth or work against the eventual National Champions Minnesota Duluth...McElhinney also became the fourth goalie in school history to record a point, picking up an assist against St. Cloud State on Jan. 29, 2010.

2008-09 (Freshman)
McElhinney played in seven games and made five starts for a total of 370:45 minutes...finished the season with a 1-3-1 record, with her win coming against Robert Morris (Jan. 3, 2009).

Prior to BSU
Played three years in the Alberta Major Midget AAA Female Hockey League (AMMFHL) 2007, played for U-18 Team Alberta at Nationals...was a member of the 2007 Hokkeido-Alberta Sport Exchange, traveling to Japan...played for the Rocky Mountain Storm AAA 1989 team in summer 2006...played in the Czech Challenge Cup in Prague during summer 2006...played for the Southern Alberta 1990 AAA Selects team during summer 2005, which won the silver medal at the Lady Flames Summer Splash Tournament in Boston...also participated in three years of cross country, two years of badminton and one year of basketball...field hockey team won the Division I City Championship junior year...member of the school’s swim team senior year...was on the honor roll three years...had the social studies and English awards for the highest average...has been accepted to BSU’s Honor Society...high school coaches were Becky McGee and Terry Larson.


Alana Susan McElhinney...born Nov. 30, 1990...daughter of Bob and Shirley McElhinney......father Bob played hockey at the University of Curtis played four years of hockey at Colorado College and currently is a member of the National Hockey League’s Anaheim Ducks...double majoring in creative/professional writing and political science.
