Coach Stone releases 2010 soccer schedule
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State University soccer head coach Jim Stone announced the finalized schedule for the upcoming 2010 season. The schedule features two teams that will square-off against BSU for the first time in program history, Viterbo University and Minot State University.

“The [Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference] is strong top-to-bottom in soccer and I think the strongest part of our schedule is in conference play,” said Stone.

The Beavers start the 2010 season off on the road with a trip over to Grand Forks, N.D. for a match against the University of North Dakota on Sept. 3. It will be the ninth meeting between the two teams. After UND won the first seven contests against BSU, the Beavers won in 2007 at the BSU Soccer Field with a score of 2-0.

“The game against North Dakota will be great for us,” Stone said. “It will prepare us for conference play, because we will see a real high speed of play. For us to have that game early is great, and it will help us know where some areas are that we need to improve before we enter conference play.”

On Sept. 5, the Beavers will play their home opener against Viterbo University, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) from LaCrosse, Wis. Two days later on Sept. 7, Bemidji State will head out for a nonconference match at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

After three nonconference matches to kick off Stone’s ninth season at BSU, the Beavers will begin NSIC play at home on Sept. 18-19 hosting the Minnesota State University Moorhead on the 18th and Minnesota, Crookston on the 19th.

The following week, Sept. 25-26, the Beavers will again be at home, this time squaring-off against Winona State and Upper Iowa. Last year, Bemidji State picked-up its first-ever win against Winona State, beating the Warriors 2-1 in Winona.

October starts off with the first NSIC road trip of the season, seeing the Beavers head out to Concordia University on the 2nd with another stop at St. Cloud State on the 3rd.

The 9-10th of October will have Bemidji State hosting Northern State and the University of Mary. The following weekend, the Beavers head out to Wayne State and Augustana.

The next weekend features an NSIC road game against Minnesota Duluth on the 22nd, with a home game against Minot State on the 23rd. The 2010 seniors will be recognized before the game against Minot State, being the final home game of the season.

BSU concludes the regular season on the road with a trip to Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State University, Mankato on Oct. 30-31.

The first round of the NSIC playoffs are on Nov. 3, with the higher seed hosting.
