BEMIDJI, Minn. - Cold winds and blowing flurries greeted the Bemidji State University soccer team Saturday as the Beavers dropped a 2-1 decision to St. Cloud State at the BSU Soccer Field.
Hitting the snowy field, the Huskies jumped out on top scoring first in the eighth minute. Chelsey Parementer scored the goal for St. Cloud State.
However, the Beavers would equalize just four minutes later. BSU was awarded a free kick after getting fouled deep in Husky territory. Taking advantage of the windy conditions, Yesenia Garcia (Jr., Great Bend, Kan.) curled the ball past Husky keeper Molly Bender.
The rest of the half would play out to a stalemate with both sides retiring at halftime tied at one a piece.
The start of the second half looked no different than how the first ended. Both teams battle it out in the midfield trying to play through the snowy conditions.
In the 69th minute St. Cloud State would take the lead on an Alexandra Pafko goal.
The Beavers were undeterred and turned up the pressure on the Husky defense. Ashlee Ellefsen (Jr., Hugo, Minn.) nearly tied the game in the closing minutes as she got behind the St. Cloud backline. However, Ellefsen’s shot went just wide-right of the goal.
The Beavers will play again on Sunday back at the BSU Soccer Field as they host Concordia-St. Paul in another NSIC matchup.
