SMSU forces 1-1 tie against BSU
MARSHALL, Minn. – The Bemdiji State University women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs on Saturday afternoon. The tie is the first for BSU on the season.

The first half played out scoreless as the Beavers out-shot SMSU 7-4. Mustang keeper Kendra Olchefske stopped all four shots on target as BSU’s Abby Kjonaas (Jr., GK., Fargo, N.D.) stopped all three shots that went on target for SMSU.

Entering the second half the Mustangs would score first after they were awarded a penalty kick in the 60th minute. With a one-goal deficit, the Beavers were undeterred and answered back in the 64th minute behind a goal from Bri Scanlan (Jr., Mid., East Grand Forks, Minn.). Ashlee Ellefsen (Sr., Fwd., Hugo, Minn.) picked up her 101st career point assisting on the play.

Looking to set a team record for most wins in a season, the Beavers were unable to find the goal they needed as the 90th minute came. Even after two overtime periods were played, the Beavers had to leave the pitch with a tie.
