Erickson; Barr lift Bemidji State to OT victory at Upper Iowa
FAYETTE, Iowa -- Senior forward Kirsten Erickson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season Saturday to lift the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 1-0 overtime victory at Upper Iowa University. Sonja Barr (Fr., GK, Duluth, Minn.) collected her first collegiate shutout as the Beavers improved to 3-3-1 overall to remain unbeaten in NSIC play (2-0-1).

Locked in a scoreless tie after 90 minutes of play, the Beavers found themselves in overtime for the second consecutive match and the third time in their last four games. Nine minutes into the extra period, Erickson netted the third game-winning-goal of her senior campaign heading a corner kick off the foot of teammate Kari McAllen (Sr., M, Fargo, N.D.) into the bakc of the net.

Barr turned aside all five of the Peacocks’ shots on goal to preserve the shutout and gain her first collegiate victory (1-0).

The shutout is the third straight for BSU goalkeepers as they have now held opponents scoreless for 345:16 dating back to the second half of the team’s Sept. 11 match at Minot State University.

BSU was out shot 20-3 in the game.

The Beavers complete their eight-game road swing to open the season tomorrow when they travel to Winona, Minn. to battle 2010 NSIC Champion Winona State University (4-2-1; 2-0-0 NSIC).  The league match up is set for 1 p.m. at Maxwell Field.

Bemidji State University, located in Bemidji, Minn., is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
