BSU soccer to host Wayne State and Augustana

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team returns to the BSU Soccer Complex this weekend, as it welcomes a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foes; Wayne State College and Augustana College. The Beavers challenge Wayne State Saturday and Augustana Sunday. Both games are set to get underway at 1 p.m.

BSU (3-2-1, 1-1-1 NSIC) has played well at home thus far this season going 2-0 in its 2012 home-opening weekend, beating Northern Michigan by a score of 1-0 and defeating Michigan Tech 3-2 in overtime.

Augustana (4-2-0, 3-0-0 NSIC) looks to stay undefeated in conference play after defeating Northern State University and Minnesota State University, Moorhead last weekend earning 10th place this week’s edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Central Region Poll. The Vikings are led by sophomore forward Payton Pry who paces the NSIC in goals (4) and points (8).

BSU has a series record of 5-2-1 with the Vikings after falling to them last season 1-0.

Wayne State (0-6-0, 0-3-0 NSIC) travels to Bemidji, Minn. seeking its first victory of the season. The Wildcats fell to Northern State 2-0 and lost in double over time to MSU-Moorhead 4-3 last weekend.

Bemidji State has an all time record of 5-7-3 versus WSC defeating it last season 1-0 in overtime. 

Bemidji State played two tough matches last weekend and came out with a tie and a loss playing Concordia University-St. Paul to a 2-2 draw and falling 5-0 to Minnesota State. Freshmen defender Abigail Nyquist (D, Golden Valley, Minn.) recorded her first career goal in the CSP match and Junior Tiffany VanHaaften (Jr., M, Chaska, Minn.) scored her third goal of the season and is now leading the team in goals (3), points (8), and shots (14).
